Are Polymer Sun kits 3 seasons or 4 seasons?

Our Polymer Sun kits are classified as 3 seasons.  They require an exterior wall between the interior of the home or business and the sun kit structure.

What are the Sun Kits made of?

The frame of each sun kit is made from an exclusive 6063 T5 aluminum extrusion and covered with a durable electrostatic Duracon finish.  Standard model frame thickness is (1 3/8” x 1 3/8”).  Our VP signature sun kits boast an impressive 3” x 1 3/8” thickness making them extremely strong yet still very light.

Each polymer panel is made of a proprietary granular formula and patented seam fusion technology providing incredible strength and elasticity while keeping weight and price per panel to a minimum.

Where are the sun kits manufactured?

Our polymer sun kits and products are 100% handmade in Canada and manufactured by PolySunKit, an established and reputable company located near Montreal, Quebec. More than 25,000 units have been produced since 1999.

Level Home Improvements proudly became the first PolySunKit authorized retailer outside of Quebec in March 2014. Many other retailers are coming and these innovative products will soon be represented all over Canada.

Can we use the sun kits in the winter?

Yes.  Each polymer panel is rated to perform down to -34 degrees Celsius and below. Although they are classified as 3 season, you may decide to heat the unit while you are using it with a portable space heater or patio heater.  In some custom installations an electric fireplace or even a wood burning stove could be installed given they are kept at a proper distance from the polymer panels.  In the case of a wood burning stove with a stack, the roof panel would need to be modified with an aluminum/metal sheet so that the stack is not directly in contact with the polymer. The polymer panels are non-flammable and their melting point temperature goes up to 184 degrees Celsius.

How much snow load will the unit handle?

Our Sun Kits are designed and developed in Montreal, Canada with the winter in mind. Each polymer panel has been tested and certified using the following standards:
Certified test ASTM D368 Stretching: + 390%
Certified test ASTM D624 Resistance: + 490 lbs/sq.in.
Certified test ASTM D638 Mechanical tension 1680 psi
Certified test ASTM D746 Thermal resistance -34 °C

With our standard models (SO and SB) we highly recommend the use of winter supports (included with each kit) if the unit is unattended over the winter or when severe amounts of snow are expected and nobody is available to clear the snow on a regular basis.

Free standing Gazebos also come with winter supports but are optional.

Our VP signature Sun kit is capable of handling very heavy snow loads due to its thicker 3” aluminum extrusion.   VP Signature sun kits do not require winter supports.
Basement entrance models are only 4.5ft deep and do not require any winter supports.

What aluminum frame colours are available?

Currently our standard models (SO, SB, wind breakers and basement entrances) come in two frame colours, white and sand.

VP Signature model and the VG Gazebo series are available in sand.

Fences and railings come in white, sand and black.

Polymer panels are available in two colours, clear smoke and tinted charcoal.

How hot will it get inside my sun kit in the summer?

Heat within the sun kit would be comparable to any room and subject to the outside temperature.  Our sun kits come standard with 100% UV protected tinted roof panels to help reduce the amount of direct sunlight let in.

Optional accessories could also be installed such as retractable sun shades to provide full shade within each unit.  In addition to sun shades, each unit could be fitted with any number of screen kits (27” x 36”), where applicable, which allows for the polymer panel to be easily opened or completely removed to provide maximum air circulation while providing shelter from insects.

Are screen kits included with my sun kit?
Yes.  All standard and VP polymer sun kits come standard with one 30” screened sliding door and a minimum of 2 screen kits (27” x 36” sizes only).  Additional sliding screened doors are also available.  Please refer to the chart below for more information on # screen kits per unit.

Can I get a sun kit that is not a standard size?

Yes.  Although all of our sun kits come in many standard sizes, each could be customized to your exact specifications.  Prior to manufacturing we begin by measuring your space and our professional 3D artists and engineers will create a 3D plan based on those measurements.

The height, width and depth of any standard unit could be modified to perfectly fit your home or business.  These custom modified projects need to be cleared and approved by our engineering department to ensure they are manufactured to pass all building codes.

Do I need a permit to install a sun kit, gazebo or wind screen?

Yes.  As with almost every type of home renovation that increases the value of your home from moving a sink to installing a deck in the backyard requires a permit.  It does vary by municipality and the best thing to do is contact your local city hall and ask.  Our sun kits are classified as 3 season which do not require heating, wiring or foundations to be installed so getting permit to install one of our sun kits is fairly easy.

We will also provide you with a certificate or engineering stamp that confirms that each sun kit is manufactured to conform to the build code in Ontario.  In some instances we could apply for the permit on your behalf if we are doing the installation for you.  All our sun kits are DIY projects that come pre-manufactured and cut to size, labelled and with full step by step instructions.

Can I install a sun kit on my second floor deck?

Yes.  Our sun kits are made of 6063 T5 aluminum and flexible polymer panels that when combined are very light and extremely strong.  You could install our polymer sun kits on any existing deck ensuring that the surface is levelled without having to upgrade or install additional foundations, considering your existing deck or surface was built to code.

I have a soffit style roof, could we build a sun kit to fit under it?

Yes.  Our standard models come in either regular profile or low profile to make it easier to fit to most common heights.  In addition to these profiles and if required, we could raise or lower the sun kit to perfectly fit the height you have available.  Such modifications will change the final cost of each unit.

I would like a sun kit that is fully enclosed plus an opened terrace; can we do that?

Yes.  You would then order a sun kit along with a terrace that perfectly matching in style and color.  This setup provides a unique space that is fully sheltered from the elements and insects and an opened adjoining space sheltered from the rain, snow or sun.  Great solution for those who enjoy BBQ all year round and eating bug free!

Will the polymer panels fade or discolour?

Our exclusive and unique polymer panels come with a Pro-Rata warranty of 5 years.  With proper care and maintenance they will easily extend that time. We recommend periodic cleaning and avoiding unwanted abuse to extend the life length of each panel.  Polymer panels are also non-flammable and resistant to molds.

How long of a warranty to I receive?

All of our products is covered by a Pro-Rata warranty.  Polymer panels are covered for 5 years and the aluminum frame is covered for 10 years.
